Help Desk and Academic Support merge to OIT Service Desk

The Office of Information Technology at UCCS (OIT) has merged the OIT Help Desk and Academic Support into a single point of contact: the OIT Service Desk.

After years of conversation and months of planning, the Office of Information Technology at UCCS (OIT) has merged the OIT Help Desk and Academic Support into a single point of contact: the OIT Service Desk.

The transition is aimed at better serving students, faculty and staff with classroom, lab and help desk support, troubleshooting and policies and procedures.

Below, find more information on the transition of the OIT Help Desk and Academic Support to the OIT Service Desk.

What is OIT Services?

OIT Services, previously known as “Computing Services” and “User Services,” is a division of the Office of Information Technology (OIT). OIT Services staffs the Help Desk and provides classroom and lab support around campus. Their primary mission is to serve the UCCS community by developing and supporting learning technology, providing exceptional customer service, and acting as the central point of contact for OIT.

What is a Service Desk, and why does UCCS need one?

A Service Desk will merge the Academic Support and Help Desk into a single point of contact — one number and one email address, forming a one-stop shop. The Service Desk will offer the same support for IT requests, and also allow the OIT department to make data-driven decisions and focus on continual-service improvement.

Where will the Service Desk be located?

The current Help Desk location (El Pomar Center 108) will remain the same and function as the core for the Service Desk. You can access the Service Desk by walking downstairs from the Kraemer Family Library or through the west entrance near Lot 224.

When can I get help?

Beginning November 1, the Service Desk walk-up hours of operation will be Monday–Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., with calls and chats still being taken until 6 p.m. for the remainder of the semester. The Service Desk will continue to follow campus closures. Columbine 231 and University Hall 118 (computer labs) will continue to open at 7:30 a.m. (Monday–Friday) and follow posted hours.
