Seven students from across UCCS have been selected to pursue principle-based ethics projects with a paired UCCS ethics fellow for the Fall 2021 semester. These students will engage in ethics opportunities, gain program-based work experience and develop valuable leadership skills.

The student ethics ambassador program is offered through the Daniels Fund Ethics Initiative Collegiate Program at UCCS College of Business and allows students to earn up to $1,200 per semester working on principle-based ethics projects at UCCS.

Students selected for the ethics ambassador program are paired with an ethics fellow in their field of interest to create ethics programs, conferences and curriculum to be delivered to UCCS and the greater southern Colorado community. Ethics ambassadors are given unique opportunities to network with industry professionals and compete in state- and nation-wide ethics events to demonstrate critical thinking skills in business ethics. Each student works collaboratively with their ethics expert to share resources and initiatives with students, educators and the business community.

“We welcome the Fall 2021 student ethics ambassadors in the Daniels Fund Ethics Initiative Program at UCCS, said Dr. Tracy Gonzalez-Padron, director of the DFEI at UCCS. “These students will continue making a difference on our campus and continue the work of the 18 UCCS student ethics ambassadors since the pilot program in Fall 2019.

Each student ethics ambassador receives a nomination from UCCS faculty and staff and submits a statement detailing how they intend to utilize ethics to support their academic and career goals.

This year’s student ethics ambassadors bring perspectives from a variety of majors and industries, and each have put ethics at the forefront of their educational goals.

“I think the remarkable piece about ethics that sets it apart from other business initiatives is that there is never one correct answer, so there is always room for creativity,” said Michaela Herring in her statement of consideration. “The pandemic has presented a new layer of hard, ethical decision-making, and most of those decisions are on a timeline. I am excited to offer years of experience in higher education where I lead students and wrestle with the expectations of my university, my peers, and the student body daily.”

“I am now, more than ever, aware of the importance of ethics in business and make sure I do what I can to ensure I properly pursue ethical behavior in my career path,” said Delaney Gust. “I have learned about myth of the amoral business, utilitarianism, deontology and I want to be able to apply my current knowledge in ethics and learn more about how to apply what I have and will learn to everyday life. This program provides the opportunity to learn and apply what Bill Daniels believed: that integrity, trust, accountability, transparency, fairness, respect, rule of law and viability should all be areas of focus in the business world.”
