Responding to University of Colorado community members who say they’ve experienced or witnessed discrimination based on gender identity and gender expression, the Board of Regents on June 24, passed a resolution restating its commitment to prohibiting discrimination based on sexual orientation. The Regents also voted to fight a ruling that CU could not prevent weapons on campuses. See more information in the CU System Newsletter.
A weapons ban is a dumb idea. All that is required for an absolute massacre is for a crazed psycho with a gun to start shooting at unarmed people. In my opinion, no shooter will try and start a massacre at a place where he believes weapons to be present. I would personally ignore any campus weapons ban. First off, it’s a constitutional right to protect myself. Second, I will not stand by helplessly as a sadistic maniac kills my classmates. Call me ignorant, but I stick to my guns.
I have the feeling that it’s far more likely that “heroes” like Josiah will end up being the ones getting people killed. What happens when some other hero sees you shooting at their classmates? Or when the police get on the scene, and see you waiving around your weapon?
Nothing about some random classmate carrying a gun makes me feel any safer.
