The remains of a mangled car were on display in front of Columbine Hall Oct. 23 as part of National Collegiate Alcohol Awareness Week.
According to a large poster on the side of the car, the vehicle once belonged to a high school student named Audra. After hearing a rattling noise coming from the back seat, Audra took her eyes off the road, causing her to swerve. After overcorrecting, Audra's car ran off the road and into a ditch, rolling multiple times.
Thanks to her seatbelt, Audra was able to walk away from the accident; however, many are not so fortunate.
According to Steve Linhart, dean of students, Division of Student Success, the car was put on display to show the dangers of impaired and distracted driving as well as to remind students to act responsibly and know how their choices affect themselves, their friends and their loved ones.
