UCCS is preparing to launch a new campus calendar after a thorough review of faculty, staff and student feedback.
University Advancement, in partnership with Information Technology, compiled feedback collected during the past several years regarding the effectiveness of the current campus calendar system. The goal of the units was to give UCCS a calendar system that allows users to promote events more easily and effectively.
“We knew that the campus calendar was not always meeting user needs,” Jennifer Hane, director of alumni relations, University Advancement, said.
Jeff Foster, multimedia marketing specialist, University Advancement and Craig Decker, web service manager, Information Technology, worked with Hane to consult with key users of the current campus calendar to determine where improvements were needed and to identify the best solution.
The new campus calendar, powered by Localist, will offer users features that enhance the promotion of special events.
The features include:
- A user friendly interface that can be learned without significant training
- A directory that will allow users to select event locations with pre-populated building information and GPS coordinates
- Widgets, or the ability to integrate special events from the overall campus calendar into department websites
- Responsive design for iPad, iPhone and other devices
- Advanced social media integration
“A capable, well-built campus event calendar is an important component of a successful UCCS web strategy,” Foster said. “A great calendar can also contribute to engagement and retention efforts.”
Once the new calendar is launched, training will be available in October. Dates and registration details will be announced.
