Gia Barboza, assistant professor of criminal justice in the School of Public Affairs, will join the editorial board of the “Child Maltreatment,” one of the top-ranked academic journals in the areas of social work and family studies.

“It is an honor to be named to the editorial board,” Barboza said. “The research published has made important contributions to preventing child abuse and neglect and has a local, national and international audience. The journal represents the work of amazing scholars who are conducting the most innovative research from a variety of different methodological and theoretical perspectives.

“Being named to the editorial board allows me to be part of a community who shares the same interest in preventing the victimization of our country’s most vulnerable populations. I hope to bring a unique, trans-disciplinary perspective and strong methodological skillset in order to further the important mission of the journal.”

The publication is the journal for the American Professional Society on the Abuse of Children. It is ranked second among 43 social work journals and third among 46 family studies journals.
