“Power of One” strikes gold in CASE District VI

The “Power of One” video developed to expand student access, scholarships and learning opportunities for students who live and work in Colorado Springs and the Pikes Peak region was recognized for excellence in an eight-state region of the United States.

The video was the top entry in the fundraising short video category at the District VI Conference for the Council for Advancement and Support of Education Jan. 27 in Kansas City, Missouri. The district incorporates the Mid-America region of the U.S. within the states of Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wyoming.

“The goal was to tell the story of the UCCS student who comes from a middle class background, who often doesn’t qualify for the need-based financial aid and has to work multiple jobs to earn a university degree,” said Martin Wood, senior vice chancellor for advancement. “Many areas of campus came together to tell this story, and how the renewable $2,500 Bridge Forward Scholarships can fuel the success of these driven students to achieve their goals.”

The video was a collaboration between UCCS Advancement and its offices of Development and Alumni Relations and Annual Giving, along with the marketing and communications office and the media services team within the Office of Information Technology.
