The Office of Sustainability will kick off the annual UCCS Bike Month Challenge with Bike Jam on Sept. 5 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on El Pomar Plaza.
Bike Jam celebrates alternative transportation and begins Bike Month with music, vendor booths, bike demos, free tune-ups and contests for prizes.
For the remainder of September, the Office of Sustainability challenges UCCS faculty, staff and students to forego their cars and to walk or use their bike for their daily commute.
Prizes will be awarded to participants who rode the most days and the most miles in the month. Prizes include: a SkyVenture gift card, Bronco Billy’s prize pack, one month of free yoga from Core Power Yoga, Stage Coach Inn gift card, Equal Exchange Organic Chocolate gift basket, a gift card for Canvas on Demand, and an Avid for Adventure gift card.
This year, the Office of Sustainability is encouraging departments and teams to sign up together. The team with the most miles will win a traveling trophy, pints of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream and roughly a year’s worth of coffee.
Participants can register for Bike Month Challenge by going to www.bikejournal.com and joining the group “UCCS 2013 Bike Month Challenge.” Winners will be contacted in early October.
