Free city bus passes for students enters second year

UCCS students will continue to have a free option to commute to campus, or anywhere else in the city, through the College Pass Program by the City of Colorado Springs’ Mountain Metro Transit system.

Students will simply swipe their Lion One ID card when they board the bus for any of the 30 fixed-route bus lines throughout the city.

The UCCS campus has direct access to four of the bus lines. The following information is for each bus line with direct service to any part of campus: 

• Route 9: Bus stop in front of the University Center. Weekday service runs every half-hour and hourly on weekends. UCCS is the end of the line, with the other end of service at the downtown terminal. 
• Route 34: Bus stop on Austin Bluffs Parkway in front of central campus. Weekday and Saturday service runs every hour. There is no Sunday service. UCCS is the approximate midpoint of the line which runs between the El Paso County Citizens Service Center at 1675 W. Garden of the Gods Road and the transfer center on Morning Sun Avenue near the intersection with Austin Bluffs Parkway. 
• Route 19: Bus stop at lot 576 by the Ent Center for the Arts. Weekday service every half-hour and hourly on weekends. UCCS is the end of the line, with the other end of service at the downtown terminal. 
• Route 39: Bus stop at lot 576 by the Ent Center for the Arts. Weekday and Saturday service every hour. There is no Sunday service. UCCS is the end of the line, with the other end of the service at the Voyager Parkway transfer center.

The program was launched in a pilot phase during the 2017-18 academic year and was approved for full-time funding with student approval of the Safety and Transportation Fee referendum during the 2018 spring student government elections. In the fall semester of 2018, nearly 300 students used the College Pass Program for an average of 4,600 rides each month.
