Monday’s hurricane-force windstorm knocked a 60-foot ponderosa pine onto a bench and the entrance of Cragmor Hall and caused other minor damage on campus.
The pine tree fell around 8:45 a.m. Monday. No one was injured, and crews quickly cut apart and cleaned up most of the tree. A ring count indicated the tree was 65-70 years old, said Rob Dougherty, executive director, Physical Plant.
Other impacts from Monday’s windstorm included:
- A tree on the east side of parking lot 103 that blew down
- Missing roof shingles on the Sustainability House
- Damage to the softball shed and Mountain Lion Stadium field netting
- Damage to the metal flashing at the Gallogly Recreation and Wellness Center
- Damage to doors on some campus buildings
“We were really fortunate how, except for the one big tree, everything else was minor,” Dougherty said.
There was no substantial damage to the Ent Center for the Arts, which is under construction, said Brad Johnson, project manager.
