Yellow roses highlight Women’s Day

yellow roseYellow roses, a traditional symbol of joy and friendship, will be distributed on campus today as part of a campus-based celebration of International Women’s Day.

Brandon Ortega, station manager, UCCS Radio, will distribute the roses to women program producers and others who have supported the station and women’s rights, according to Marge Mistry, senior instructor, Department of Languages and Cultures and station sponsor.

“This is our way of saying thank you as well as bringing attention both to the progress that women have made and the continued work that must be done,” Mistry said.

International Women’s Day is an annual March 8 event to celebrate women’s achievements throughout history and across nations. It is also known as United Nations Day for Women’s Rights and International Peace.
