Hollywood comes to campus

A feature length movie will be partially filmed at UCCS and will star a former local resident, according to a production company representative and university officials.

Daniel Sobieray will star in a movie that will be partially filmed at UCCS.

Jan Perry Esten, production manager, T2S Productions, Florissant, recently completed an agreement that will allow filming of several scenes from “A Tale of Two Sillies” outside the Kraemer Family Library Dec. 8 and 9 and indoors Dec. 28-30. Most of the filming will occur at 410 S. Tejon St. where a coffee house set was built.

Esten is working with the UCCS Department of Communication to incorporate students into several behind the scenes roles and will pay the university for any costs associated with the production. He also met with Teri Switzer, dean, Kraemer Family Library, the Department of Public Safety and University Center representatives to ensure the filming will not impede normal campus routines.

“We deeply appreciate the tremendous support and cooperation the entire UCCS staff and administration has given our project,” Esten said.

The movie, a “Breakfast Club”-like comedy, will star Daniel Sobieray, a Cheyenne Mountain High School graduate who recommended his home town. The film is set in 1994 and focuses on a group of California college students. It contains several references to Charles Dickens’ “A Tale of Two Cities.”

The production company, which has its editing studio in Florissant, planned on scheduling the month-long filming in the Los Angeles area, but met with  resistance and high costs.  The film’s director, Brandon Esten, said of the move to Colorado Springs, “This is the place I want to cast and crew my next three movies because the folks here are so cooperative and there is a large pool of talent.  We want UCCS and the City proud to be part of our endeavors and we will work hard to achieve that.”
