California State University professor Pamela Madsen to be guest artist

Internationally acclaimed composer Pamela Madsen will visit UCCS as a guest artist in residence Nov. 26-Dec.1.

Madsen, associate professor of composition, music theory and music technology at California State University-Fullerton, will participate in two programs that are free and open to the public.

From 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., Nov. 30 in the University Center Theater, Madsen will present “The World Electroacoustic Listening Room Project.” Then,  at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 1 in the Centennial Hall Auditorium, she will present “Sound Crossing: From the Singing of the Waves into the Heart of the Earth Image-Music-Text.”

Madsen is a composer, performer and scholar. Through her compositions, interactive opera/installations, writings, collaborative projects, collected archives of works by women in electronic music, teaching, performances and organization of events she has created a body of work with profound breadth. “The World Electroacoustic Listening Room Project” presents a playback of new video works from International Call for Works 2012. This includes works from all over the world and includes UCCS students and faculty members. Audience members may move in and out during the non-stop 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. playback followed by a lecture and question and answer session by Madsen from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.

“The Sound Crossing” will feature multi-media works by Madsen with video and texts by Quintan Ana Wikswo and IMAX filmmaker Greg MacGillivray. The performance will also include the participation of the UCCS Peak FreQuency Creative Arts Collective, music faculty members, and student chamber ensemble.
