The UCCS Faculty Assembly agreed Friday to ask all UCCS faculty to vote on a new general education curriculum model for the campus.
With a unanimous vote, Faculty Assembly agreed to ask all UCCS faculty members with the rank of instructor or above, and who are employed at least half-time, to vote by secret electronic ballot on a general education curriculum. Ballots will be sent Nov. 26 to campus email addresses with voting Nov. 26-30. If approved by the faculty, UCCS will move toward implementing the general education goals with a target date of fall 2014.
Faculty who do not receive a ballot, or who prefer to cast a paper ballot, should contact Robyn Marschke, director, Office of Institutional Research, 255-3640 or [email protected].
The general education plan outlines an approximately 24 credit hour across-campus curriculum designed to support the goals of helping students in core competencies of “evaluate and create,” “know and explore” and “act and interact.” Several faculty committees have worked on the goals and details of a proposed curriculum with Faculty Assembly input at several stages, according to David Moon, interim provost.
Jeff Ferguson, professor, College of Business, and Christina Jimenez, associate professor, Department of History, co-chaired a faculty general education task force. The pair developed a video presentation to explain general education and its progress. Additional details are available at http://www.uccs.edu/provost/general-education.html.
