The Colorado Springs Undergraduate Research Forum drew a record crowd Saturday to hear John Herrington, class of 1983, and the first Native American astronaut talk about his experiences as a student, a pilot and as an astronaut.
More than 300 students representing the United States Air Force Academy, Colorado College and UCCS attended the forum and shared their ideas. For the opening of the day-long event, Herrington shared his path from university academic probation to being one of 400 people in the world who have traveled in space.
Herrington shared his personal story, photographs and video of his mission aboard Endeavor, and encouraged the students to pursue dreams and ideas. He later toured the new UCCS Science & Engineering building with Tom Wolkow, assistant professor, Biology, and CSURF co-chair.
