Linhart fills dean of students position

Veteran staff member Steve Linhart is returning to full-time duties working with students as part of a new organizational structure within the Division of Student Success and Enrollment Management.

Homer Wesley, vice chancellor, Student Success and Enrollment Management, announced Linhart’s appointment as dean of students. A similar position, but with the title of executive director of judicial affairs and student support, was previously held by Linhart. That position was eliminated in 2010 as part of budget reductions.

“I am pleased to have Steve again fill the role of dean of students,” Wesley said. “Steve’s patience, collaborative approach and knowledge of the university make him an ideal person to hold to this position.”

Since Jan. 2010, Linhart served as student conduct officer and director of emergency management. In that role, he reported to both the director of public safety and the vice chancellor for student success and enrollment management. From fall 2008 to 2010, Linhart was the executive director of judicial affairs and student support services. From 2000 to 2008, Linhart served as police officer, police sergeant and deputy chief of police in the Department of Public Safety. Prior to joining UCCS, Linhart was an El Paso County Sheriff’s officer. He earned a master’s degree in public administration from UCCS and a bachelor’s degree from the United States Air Force Academy.

As a police offer, Linhart was known for his patrolling of campus by bicycle. He quickly became known to students, staff and faculty alike who found him both approachable and helpful. He is also active in Freshman Seminar and the campus health fair and previously led self-defense training. In 2009, he was selected as Employee of the Quarter.

A search is underway to fill Linhart’s previous position as director of emergency management.
