To the Campus Community:
This morning’s news about the Waldo Canyon fire is cause for celebration. The fire is now 70 percent contained overall and fully contained within the Colorado Springs city limits. Evacuation orders are being lifted throughout our community.
I want to provide a brief update as we prepare for the Fourth of July holiday.
Offers to help are appreciated. The care and concern expressed by members of our campus community for the victims of the Waldo Canyon fire is a hallmark of what makes UCCS strong. If you are interested in contributing money, clothing or food to the fire victims, I ask that you do so through the following organizations.
- Care and Share. Please call 528-1247.
- Red Cross. The Red Cross has established a donation site in parking lot 6 south of the parking garage and the Department of Public Safety.
Student health center is offering tetanus boosters. The UCCS Student Health Center will offer tetanus boosters for the cost of the vaccine ($30) to faculty, staff and students. The El Paso County Health Department recommends the booster for those living in areas affected by the fire if a dose has not been received in the past five years. Please call 255-4444 to schedule an appointment.
I am grateful to every member of this campus community. You came together in a time of need and were unified by your desire to help and to be helpful. In the coming days, I hope to send individuals who volunteered a personal thank you and we also hope to have some sort of celebration of our community at a later date.
I wish you a safe and quiet (remember, no fireworks are allowed by state law) Fourth of July holiday. I will send another campus update Friday morning.
Respectfully,
Pam Shockley-Zalabak, chancellor
