John Steven Taylor, husband of Mary Snyder, dean, College of Education, died May 8 following a long battle with cancer.

John Steven (Steve) Taylor, 62, died May 8, 2012 following a long battle with cancer.
Steve was born in Norman, Oklahoma on November 26, 1949 to Charles and Isabel Cross Taylor. When he was five the family moved to Boulder Creek, CA. Steve graduated from San Lorenzo Valley High School in 1968 and attended the University of California Berkley, receiving his degree in 1972.
Steve fulfilled his boyhood dream when he moved to Alaska in 1974. He spent the next 36 years in banking, primarily with National Bank of Alaska and Wells Fargo. He served in various management positions in banks in Cordova, Juneau, Glen Allen, Ketchikan, and Anchorage. He was an avid fisherman, and enjoyed duck hunting and golf.
Steve served on the boards of the Red Cross and Blood Bank of Alaska. In 2008, he married Mary Snyder. He retired in 2011 and he and his wife moved to Colorado Springs, CO.
Steve is survived by his wife, his children Jennefer DelaVega and Steven Ryan (Ryan) Taylor, along with his grandchildren Don and Isabel DelaVega. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Carl Taylor.
