Cindy Corwin, director, Human Resources, recently offered tips to make annual evaluations for faculty and staff more productive and issued deadline reminders for the filing of official paperwork.
“The evaluation session should be considered an important meeting for both the supervisor and the employee,” Corwin said.
Supervisor tips
- Engage with and listen to your employee.
- Be prepared to discuss the employee’s performance and use descriptive language to describe work performance and behaviors.
- The performance evaluation should take into account the employee’s work outcome/end product as well as work behavior.
- Supervisors should be thoughtful, thorough and fair when evaluating employees.
- A formal evaluation session with discussion of the rating between the rater and employee is required by university policy.
