Dean finalists announced for College of Letters, Arts and Sciences

Tammy Stone, professor, Department of Anthropology, CU-Denver, will present her qualifications to be dean of the UCCS College of Letters, Arts and Sciences during a campus forum scheduled for 9:15 a.m. Feb. 17 in the University Center Theater.

Stone’s career at CU-Denver dates to 1992 when she began as a senior instructor of anthropology. During the past 20 years, she was promoted to assistant, associate and full professor. Her administrative appointments include graduate program director of the Department of Anthropology, chair of the Department of Anthropology, interim program chair of an integrated master’s degree program, interim chair of Department of Sociology, acting dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and associate dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.

She earned a bachelor’s degree from Florida State University, a master’s degree from the University of Texas, Austin, and Ph.D. from Arizona State University.

Stone is the fifth of six candidates to visit UCCS.

Manual Avalos, director of research partnerships and innovation, University of North Carolina, Wilmington, was introduced as a finalist and conducted a public forum Feb. 9. Elizabeth Throop, interim dean, Siebens School of Business and visiting professor of anthropology, Buena Vista University, Storm Lake, Iowa, was introduced as a finalist and conducted a public forum Jan. 31. Kathleen Tiemann, interim dean, College of Arts and Sciences, University of North Dakota, was introduced as a finalist and conducted a public forum Jan. 23. Rex Welson, associate dean, College of Letters, Arts and Sciences, was introduced as a finalist and conducted a public forum Jan. 18.

The finalists were announced Jan. 11 by Teri Switzer, dean, Kraemer Family Library, and search committee chair.

The final candidate is

  • Peter Braza, professor of mathematics, College of Computing, Engineering and Construction, University of North Florida.

The dates of public presentations by candidates will be announced in Communique and by email to faculty and staff lists.
