Rachel Gibson, program assistant, Office of Disability Services and University Testing, and Tyson Randall, audiovisual program manager, University Center, were featured in a video promoting a new CU health and wellness program, Be Colorado.
In the video, Gibson and Randall – both wearing UCCS Mountain Lion apparel – extoll the health benefits of exercise and being outdoors. They are joined in the video by Jeff Thompson of the University of Colorado Hospital who takes the steps – all 228 of them – to his office as part of a daily workout routine.
The video is all part of an effort to encourage faculty and staff to actively work to improve their physical, mental and financial health.
From 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Oct. 5 and Oct. 26 in Berger Hall, the program will move from promotion to health assessment. Faculty and staff can receive free health screenings and checks including blood pressure, a lipid profile with glucose, body mass index and waist circumference, tools used by health providers to assess risk of coronary disease and diabetes. Participants may also receive a free flu shot and register to win an Apple iPad 2.
To participate in the program, faculty, staff and retirees should be subscribers of UA Net, UA Net Colorado Springs, HMO Colorado, Lumenos, CU-Kaiser and Medicare primary health insurance plans. UCCS employees and retirees who are on Kaiser and United Health Care plans offered by the State of Colorado are not eligible.
To receive the free health care screening, or learn more about the Be Colorado program, visit www.becolorado.org and register for the health screening.
The health assessment and health screenings are private and confidential. CU will only receive de-identified, aggregate reports. The purpose of the reports will be to provide information that can help inform future health benefit design changes that better meet the health needs of employees.
