Reddy: Thank you Regent emeriti Hybl and Ludwig

Chancellor Venkat ReddyAs we welcome Regents Chance Hill and Lesley Smith to the University of Colorado Board of Regents, I want to take this moment to reflect on the two emeritus members of the board who have left their mark on CU, and specifically UCCS.

Regent Kyle Hybl, who represented our local congressional district, and Regent Steve Ludwig, an at-large member who was the first UCCS alumnus to serve on the board, are both term-limited and retiring after 12 years of service. Their leadership was felt across the system and the state, and here in Colorado Springs, UCCS continued to grow and expand. We continue to serve the local community while becoming a leading regional university in the western United States.

Steve Ludwig’s commitment to serve UCCS started when he was the student body co-executive in the 1991-92 academic year. As a regent, he was a tireless advocate for access through the CU Guaranteed program for community college graduates, and emphasized the importance of online programs in accomplishing that goal. The new Stephen C. Ludwig Chancellor’s Leadership Class Scholarship will provide that access to transfer students who demonstrate need and academic success in their studies at UCCS. Once it reaches $25,000, the fund will convert into a pure endowment to forever recognize Steve’s leadership.

Kyle Hybl’s legacy is evident across the campus in terms of buildings and initiatives he led and supported. He will be recognized through the Kyle Hybl Chancellor’s Leadership Class Scholarship Endowment. His service, dedication and commitment to CU will be honored through helping UCCS students grow as informed leaders in their academic careers. Through community involvement, professional development and mentoring, these students will broaden their understanding and experiences within the field they are entering.

We hope you will consider contributing to these important scholarship funds so we can support more of our well-deserving students.

UCCS has seen tremendous enrollment growth in the last 12 years, with new degree programs and facilities to meet that growth, thanks to the work of Kyle Hybl and Steve Ludwig as members of the Board of Regents. Regent Hybl will continue to stay connected with UCCS in a voluntary role as the Strategic Advisor to the Chancellor. Please join me in congratulating Regent emeriti Hybl and Ludwig for their service to UCCS, CU and to higher education in Colorado.

We wish them the very best as they pursue future endeavors.
