Coming to campus for “Thor” could be a show of UCCS staff solidarity as much as a summer diversion.
The movie is the first of the semester’s campus events Professional Exempt Staff Association leaders are hoping will promote staff participation.
“PESA is going to try and be as involved as possible this year,” said Stephanie Hanenberg, director, Student Health Center, and PESA president. “Working with the Office of Student Activities to promote campus movie night is only the beginning.”
“In difficult times, it’s important to maintain morale,” Hanenberg said. “We face another year of tightening our belts, doing more with less, and a lot of uncertainty. It is more critical than ever to keep our spirits up.”
Hanenberg sees campus activities as key to morale, as well as giving PESA a positive purpose, she said.
“We want to do more to welcome new PESA staff members,” she said. “We’re partnering with Staff Council to bring speakers to campus on topics that would be of interest to all staff.”
PESA will be working with Staff Council and the Office of Sustainability to promote the third annual Bike Jam, Sep. 14. The event celebrates bicycling, encourages UCCS employees to bicycle to work, and offers opportunities to learn about sustainable transportation. Past Bike Jams featured maps, tours and free bike tune ups.
Movie night is scheduled for 8 p.m. Aug. 14, on the west lawn in front of the Osborne Center, with free popcorn and candy available. PESA and OSA are encouraging all UCCS students and employees to attend with their families.
“A Sunday night under the stars with family, friends and co-workers is a great way to relax and unwind before the semester becomes intense and busy,” Hanenberg said. “We hope everyone thinks so.”
She promised more events and PESA involvement for the coming year.
