Chancellor to address House Bill 1301 for staff

Chancellor Pam Shockley-Zalabak will host a forum at 2 p.m. Aug. 12 in the Centennial Hall Auditorium  for classified staff members, supervisors and Office of Human Resources liaisons.

Shockley-Zalabak will share provisions of House Bill 1301 which was passed by the Colorado General Assembly this spring. The law goes into effect Aug. 10. She will be joined by Cindy Corwin, director, Office of Human Resources.

Called the higher education efficiency bill, HB 1301 provides flexibility to higher education institutions in many areas. Of specific concern to many classified employees are the bill’s provisions that allow universities to create positions not covered in the state personnel system and to hire retirees for longer time periods than currently allowed.

Shockley-Zalabak encouraged classified staff to attend the meeting to learn more details about the law’s provisions and to learn of options that are available. She emphasized that choices will be made by individuals without pressure from supervisors.
