More than 100 donate blood in Halloween drive

Dan Aki, a sophomore UCCS student, prepares to donate blood with the assistance of Ardith Hanson, a Memorial Hospital medical technician.

There were no ghoulish creatures at the annual Halloween blood drive Wednesday and Thursday.

Instead, a covey of happy pumpkins, baseball players, and cheerleaders assisted faculty, staff and students in donating blood. The costumed employees of Memorial Health Systems were pleased with the 78 donations received Wednesday and the more than 30 donations received during Thursday’s inclement-weather shortened session.

“Memorial was very happy with the help to our community that was provided,” Brad Bailey, accountant, Resource Management, said. “Even with the bad weather, I think this was an excellent turnout.”
