Kevin Landis, associate professor, Visual and Performing Arts Department, and director of the Academic Theatre Program, received a 2017 True West Award Dec. 20 from the Denver Center for the Performing Arts.
Landis was recognized for his work including Prologue, a free series of theater talks, performances and hands-on workshops with prominent theater figures including actors Allison Janney and John Douglas Thompson and Oskar Eustis, artistic director of the Public Theatre in New York.
“I want to put students in the room with the greatest artists and art thinkers in the country,” Landis said in a DCPA interview. “Not because meeting famous people is fun – though sometimes it is. But because this is where they can learn and expand their artistic potential.”
The True West Awards, now in their 17th year, began as the Denver Post Ovation Awards in 2001. DCPA Senior Arts Journalist John Moore — along with additional voices from around the state — celebrate the entire local theatre community by recognizing 30 achievements from 2017 over 30 days, without categories or nominations.
