CU branding initiative is forum topic

Chancellor Pam Shockley-Zalabak supported the CU branding efforts in a campus memo this week and announced a forum where many campus details of the initiative will be shared and questions answered. The forum is scheduled for 11 a.m. Feb. 16 in the Centennial Hall auditorium.

See the chancellor’s memo below.

To the Campus Community:

I am writing to expand on President Benson’s January 12 memo introducing a new branding initiative at the university. I seek your involvement as we, as a campus, sort through the details of the initiative and what it means for the campus and its departments.

There are specific CU System guidelines that the campuses must follow. We are working on campus-specific versions of the standards and hope to have them available by mid-February.

I recognize there are many questions. In the weeks and months to come, I hope to provide answers and to involve the campus community in determining the correct path for UCCS, one that recognizes our membership in the University of Colorado System while also maintaining our unique position in southern Colorado.

I wish to assure everyone that this will be a transition. No one is expected to throw out existing materials or to abruptly change course. Rather, the president and I are in agreement that changes will occur over the next several months and, in some cases, several years. My request is that we do so collegially and with a broader understanding of the president’s goals as we prepare to enter into a capital fundraising campaign. President Benson and I agree that branding is both how we perceive ourselves and how we want others to perceive us.

To that end, I have asked that University Advancement lead a forum on Wednesday, February 16 from 11:00-12:00 p.m. in Centennial Hall Auditorium to begin a discussion of the CU branding effort and how we will apply the principles at UCCS.  I have asked Vice Chancellor Martin Wood to lead the discussion to be joined by members of the campus leadership team. I encourage your attendance and your questions. I also encourage you to review the president’s memo and CU System brand guidelines, upon which our campus standards must be based, prior to the forum.

Respectfully,

Pam Shockley-Zalabak
Chancellor
