U.S. News rankings reflect outstanding research, teaching at UCCS

Graduate programs in nursing, business and engineering at UCCS are among the nation’s best, according to just-released lists of graduate programs compiled by “U.S. News & World Report,” which annually highlights the best in research and teaching across the country.

On March 14, U.S. News released its 2018 editing of Best Graduate Schools. A sampling of the rankings was shared in advance with the university.

“We appreciate the U.S. News recognition of the high-quality of UCCS graduate education offered by UCCS,” Terry Schwartz, interim provost, said. “These programs reflect the work of faculty over a period of many years.”

UCCS programs ranked by U.S. News are

• Master of Business Administration (part-time). The part-time MBA program offered by the UCCS College of Business ranked 46 among public and private universities in the nation. The CU Boulder program received the same ranking. The UCCS and CU Boulder programs were the highest ranked part-time MBA programs offered in Colorado.
• Master of Nursing. The master of science in nursing degree offered by the Helen and Arthur E. Johnson College of Nursing and Health Sciences ranked 52 among public and private universities in the nation. Among master’s programs offered in Colorado, only the program at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus ranked higher.
• Doctorate of Nursing Practice. The doctorate of nursing practice degreed offered by the Helen and Arthur E. Johnson College of Nursing ranked 54 among public and private universities in the nation. Among doctoral degree programs offered in Colorado, only the program at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus ranked higher.

Earlier this year, U.S. News ranked online graduate programs. The results of those rankings were:

• Online Graduate Nursing Programs. The graduate nursing degrees ranked ninth of programs offered by public and private universities in the nation. The program offered by the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus achieved the same ranking. They were the only programs in Colorado to receive rankings.
• Online Master of Business Administration. The online master of business ranked 47 among public and private universities in the nation. The UCCS ranking was the highest of any program offered by a university in Colorado.
• Online Master of Engineering. The online master’s degree in engineering offered by the College of Engineering and Applied Science ranked 62 among public and private universities in the nation.

The U.S. News data come from statistical surveys sent to administrators at more than 1,970 graduate programs and from reputation surveys sent to more than 16,500 academics and professionals in the disciplines. Surveys were conducted during the fall of 2016 and in early 2017. The Best Graduate Schools 2018 guidebook may be pre-ordered online now or purchased in stores April 11.
