Modern art and physical fitness will join forces in a new Wednesday program at the campus contemporary art gallery.
The Galleries of Contemporary Arts and the Recreation and Wellness Center will offer free meditation and yoga sessions during Michael Theodore’s monumental kinetic installation “micro/macro.” The sessions will be available on Wednesdays from Sept. 14 to Nov. 16.
“These weekly sessions will offer visitors an experience of Theodore’s sublime exhibition from a wholly different perspective and to connect to others through the experience,” Daisy McGowan, director, Galleries of Contemporary Art and exhibit curator, said.
Guided meditation sessions will be from 11:30 a.m. to 11:50 a.m. Yoga sessions are from Noon to 1 p.m. at the GOCA location in Centennial Hall. All levels of experience are welcome. The sessions are free but registration is requested. Register here.
The yoga sessions will be led by Debby Patz Clarke, staff psychologist, UCCS Wellness Center. Clarke has practiced yoga for more than 20 years and has taught courses since 2009, including a weekly class on campus for five years.
Theodore’s work will be displayed Sept. 9 – Nov. 19. The Boulder-based artist took over the 2,800 square foot campus gallery with a monumental interactive kinetic sculptural installation that features robotics, sensors, light and sound. He worked in residence at GOCA during August to create the exhibit with the assistance of UCCS students.
Gallery hours are noon- to 5 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays, or by appointment.
