Galleries of Contemporary Art opens “ChitChat,” talks on contemporary culture and DIY topics

The Galleries of Contemporary Art will open “ChitChat,” a series of talks on contemporary culture and Do-It-Yourself topics, April 14 at GOCA121, 121 S. Tejon Street in downtown Colorado Springs.

The fifth “ChitChat” season features multiple events, each with two speakers, and many hands-on learning opportunities. Reservations are requested and a donation of $10 in advance and $15 the day of the event is suggested. Reservations can be made at http://www.uccs.edu/goca/EVENTS.html

ChitChat 2016 Events

6 p.m., April 14. “Musical Energy & the Future of Light,” with Josep Caballé-Domenech, music director,  Colorado Springs Philharmonic, and Lucas Schiff, CEO and founder,  Nimbus9, a Colorado Springs technology company. Ticket holders may also attend a rehearsal of The Colorado Springs Philharmonic’s “Doctor Atomic” at the Pikes Peak Center following the event.

7 p.m., April 26. “Guerilla Placemaking & Politics and Poetry” with Mark Lakeman of Urban Placemaker, in Portland, Oregon, and Art Goodtimes, a poet, farmer and San Miguel County commissioner. This event is presented in conjunction with the Community Build Conference.

7 p.m., May 5. “Lemurs & Local Music” with Krista Fish, biological anthropologist, Colorado College; and Kate Perdoni, television producer and instructor for Rocky Mountain PBS, freelance radio and print journalist, and a musician in the band Eros and the Eschaton.

7 p.m., May 19. “Burnt Food & The Chemistry of Color,” with Amanda Bowman, professor of chemistry, Colorado College and Brother Luck, chef and owner of Brother Luck Street Eats.

Doors open 30 minutes before events begin.

GOCA is a regional hub of contemporary art, culture, and conversation. By featuring world-class artists, hosting artist and expert talks, and offering meaningful events, GOCA engages UCCS students, faculty, staff and Pikes Peak Region community members in contemporary culture and life. GOCA is a contemporary arts organization with two galleries, one founded on the UCCS campus in 1981 and a satellite downtown location opened in 2010 in the Plaza of the Rockies building.
