Actor and philanthropist Sally Hybl was honored earlier this month as the recipient of UCCS Theatreworks’ first Community Art Award.
Hybl was celebrated at Theatreworks’ annual dinner and gala, Feb. 6 in Berger Hall.
Theatreworks started the Community Art Award to recognize people who have made a significant impact on the cultural community in southern Colorado. “In our inaugural year, we chose to honor a woman who is passionate, potent and a transformational leader in every sense of the word,” said Drew Martorella, executive director of UCCS Presents.
Hybl was nominated by Susan Szpyrka, senior vice chancellor, Administration and Finance.
“Her work in this community is nothing short of stunning, but the commitment she has made to UCCS has helped make the seemingly impossible possible – most recently with the Ent Center for the Arts, which broke ground just six months ago,” Szpyrka said.
Hybl serves on the boards of Theatreworks, the Cultural Office of the Pikes Peak Region, the Opera Theatre of the Rockies, the Peak Vista Foundation, Children’s Hospital Colorado Foundation Board of Trustees and the Cheyenne Mountain School District 12 Tradition of Excellence Foundation, Szpyrka said.
