Faculty and staff will have the opportunity for a free breakfast and a warm pair of socks Dec. 1.
As part of national “Giving Tuesday,” University Advancement will sponsor a breakfast beginning at 7:30 a.m. in Clyde’s in the University Center. All faculty and staff are invited to attend and learn about the difference that gifts, both large and small, make for UCCS and its students.
Advancement will give the first 400 donors of $5 or more a pair of socks that bear the UCCS Mountain Lion logo. Gifts will be accepted in person (cash, check, credit card).
A donor who requested anonymity has pledged $40,000 in scholarship support if at least 400 other donors contribute any amount to UCCS on Dec. 1. Hane said faculty and staff can contribute to numerous student scholarship funds or write in where they wish their donation to be used.
Also as part of “Giving Tuesday,” bows will appear on campus buildings where private donations played an important role in making the building possible. A table from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 1 in the University Center will allow faculty, staff and students to sign an oversize thank you card to campus donors.
Students who live on campus are also getting into the act, Hane said, with a friendly competition among occupants on various residence hall floors. The floor with the highest percentage participation will be declared winners. Students in campus housing can make donations at a table in Monarch from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
“Giving Tuesday” refers to the Tuesday after Thanksgiving in the United States. It is a movement to create a national day of giving at the beginning of the Christmas and holiday season. “Giving Tuesday” was started in 2012 by the 92nd Street Y and the United Nations Foundation as a response to commercialization and consumerism in the post-Thanksgiving season.
