Free ride: Mountain Metro offers service to UCCS

kaiser_ltlcropped_0UCCS faculty, staff and students will have the opportunity to test a sustainable way to get to work, shopping or just to see Colorado Springs from a new perspective Feb. 23-March 1.

Mountain Metro Transit will offer anyone with UCCS identification free passage on a city bus during those dates. The effort, according to Jim Spice, executive director, Parking and Transportation Services, is intended to eliminate a perceived barrier to public transportation.

"I've never ridden a city bus," Spice said. "But I plan to. I want to see how they operate and be able to tell people public transportation in our community is a cost-effective, environmentally sound way to get to campus or to get around town."

In addition to free passage, riders who show UCCS identification will receive discounts to Poor Richard's bookstore, toy store, restaurant and wine bar in the 300 block of N. Tejon.
