The UCCS Alumni and Friends Association, in cooperation with the Gallery of Contemporary Art, will provide free cocoa, cider and treats for alumni, students, faculty and staff during the Dec. 6 Colorado Springs Festival of Lights Parade at GOCA 121, 121 S. Tejon.
During the parade, UCCS will debut a new float to honor the university’s 50th anniversary year in 2015. The float was designed by Steve Tragesser, associate professor, Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department, and built by a team of UCCS students led by Stephen Cucchiara, assistant director, Office of Student Activities.
According to Jennifer Hane, director, Alumni Relations, celebrating the university’s 50th anniversary at the Festival of Lights was an obvious choice.
“While our anniversary technically isn’t until January 2015, we wanted to kick-off celebrations with alumni, current students, faculty and staff, as well as the Colorado Springs community,” Hane said. “The UCCS float is a staple in the annual parade, and what better way to celebrate than being surrounded by friends and family?”
Refreshments will be available in GOC 121 beginning at 5:30 p.m. while the parade begins at 5:50 p.m. Gifts will be available for the first 300 attendees.
Those who wish to attend the event must register by Dec. 1.
