Graduate School announces new fellowship recipients

1398119_727415960620618_1408288635_oSeven UCCS doctoral degree candidates recently received a new Mentored Doctoral Fellowship for the 2014-15 academic year from the UCCS Graduate School for engaging in teaching, extra research activities, and professional development activities beyond the requirements for their degrees.

The Mentored Doctoral Fellowship is a new program that highlights students performing exceptionally in their programs while conducting professional development activities beyond  standard program requirements. The program is open to all UCCS doctoral students.

The names of students who received a $20,000 fellowship, their department, and college follow.

  • Jason Ter Host, Educational Leadership, Research and Policy Department, College of Education
  • Brenna Renn, Psychology Department, College of Letters, Arts and Sciences
  • Samantha John, Psychology Department, College of Letters, Arts and Sciences

The names of students who received a $10,00 fellowship, their department and college follow.

  • Thomas Amundson, Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department, College of Engineering and Applied Science
  • Ryan Bosworth, Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department, College of Engineering and Applied Science
  • Joshua Alcorn, Electrical and Computer Engineering Department, College of Engineering and Applied Science
  • Patrick Radigan, Educational Leadership, Research and Policy Department, College of Education

In addition to their fellowships, recipients will be paired with a faculty mentor who will assist the student in meeting professional goals.

“The students selected this year were engaged in teaching, extra research activities, and professional development activities beyond the requirements for their degree,” Kelli Klebe, dean, Graduate School, said. “These are excellent students and the we’re excited to provide them with support to meet their professional goals.”

The Graduate School works with six UCCS colleges to offer more than 20 master’s and doctoral programs, including online, weekend and evening course options.  Almost all graduate faculty members have terminal degrees and many are working with  partners such as NASA, the Olympic Training Committee and the National Science Foundation.
