UCCS Chancellor Pam Shockley-Zalabak joined the ranks of Bill Gates, Oprah and Taylor Swift when she accepted the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge Aug. 29.
The viral social media campaign involves dumping a bucket of ice water on someone’s head to promote awareness of the disease amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and to encourage donations to research.
Shockley-Zalabak was challenged to complete the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge by Jill Tiefenthaler, president, Colorado College, and a family friend from Oklahoma whose father died of ALS.
“We’re here tonight to do something that is both great fun, and very serious and very important,” Shockley-Zalabak said. “This is one of the important diseases for which we’re all making contributions and looking for a cure.”
Shockley-Zalabak was joined by Tamara Moore, executive director, Auxiliary Services, Gary Reynolds, assistant vice chancellor for administration, Administration and Finance, Ralph Giese, director, Residential Life and Housing, Molly Kinne, assistant director, Residential Life and Housing, Ida Bauer, director, Family Development Center, Andrea Cordova, professional assistant, Office of the Chancellor, the mascot Clyde and about 20 residence hall assistants.
