This April, one graduate and one undergraduate team from UCCS competed in the 2024 Daniels Fund Ethics Initiative Collegiate Program Case Competition at the Gaylord Rockies Resort in Denver, Colorado.
The Daniels Fund Ethics Initiative Collegiate Program Case Competition exposes students to a thought-provoking business ethics case that they might face in their professional careers. This year the case was about ethical risks in a defense industry company.
At this event, teams must collaboratively analyze, present and respond to questions posed by a panel of judges. They also go up against student teams from other universities and colleges in Colorado, Wyoming, Utah and New Mexico. Additionally, this experience challenges students’ ethical reasoning, gives them a chance to network across multiple state lines, and raises their awareness on the importance of principle-based ethics.
The UCCS Graduate team placed third overall in a very competitive track.
“The University of Colorado Colorado Springs Graduate team was amazing to work with – all are UCCS College of Business MBA students that have taken the launch course on Strategic Foundations of Responsible Management,” said Director of the Daniels Fund Ethics Initiative at UCCS & Professor of Marketing Tracy Gonzalez-Padron. “The students brought learning of principle based ethical-decision making from class and their own personal experience to address problems in an interesting and challenging case.”
Both teams can be proud of their accomplishments and professionalism throughout the course of the competition. A special thank you to UCCS College of Business Assistant Teaching Professor, Paul Yankey, for advising the undergraduate team.
Once again, we say congratulations to both teams representing UCCS at this competition. We’re excited to see how your dedication to ethical-decision making will offer success, leadership, and positively impact the business world.

The Daniels Fund Ethics Initiative Collegiate Program at UCCS College of Business is a resource for principle-based ethics education, serving students, educators and business community. The UCCS College of Business is one of eight original participating schools in the Daniels Fund Ethics Initiative Collegiate Program that now includes eleven participating schools. The DFEI supports the Southern Colorado Education Consortium (SCEC) for eleven higher education institutions in the southern half of the state. In 2016, the DFEI Collegiate Program at UCCS launched an ethics champion pilot program to expand best practices in ethics education. Each participating school has educators serving as Ethics Champions on their campus to expand principle-based ethics education and resources throughout southern Colorado. The program has since expanded to include a large variety of events and programs for educators, students and business members throughout southern Colorado.
