Enrollment of international students for the spring 2014 broke records in applications received, students admitted, and first time admits according to official campus reports.
According to a recent report from the Office of International Affairs, UCCS received 366 applications from international students, an 8.28 percent increase from Spring 2013. Of those, 227 students were admitted, a 6.57 percent increase resulting in a total of 2,307 credit hours.
But according to Anthony Shull, executive director, Office of International Affairs, the most exciting statistic is the 64.52 percent increase in first-time international students to campus.
“We view this as a positive indicator in contribution to overall campus enrollment objectives and diversification of the student body,” Shull said. “Our team has worked hard to recruit students through both domestic and international means and we’re pleased with the results. Our blend of advising and support services for the international student audience has been positive”
Following analysis and strategic planning, the Office of International Affairs has identified a number of countries to focus on. The countries are separated into three categories based on existing scholarships, exchange agreements, economic data, safety and security data, existing faculty ties, mobility indicators provide by the Institute for Education, World Education Services and other similar organizations.
Tier 1 countries include: China, Taiwan, South Korea, Japan, Vietnam, India, Turkey, Brazil and Germany. Tier 2 countries include: Colombia, Mexico, Kuwait, Oman, Iraq, Thailand, Indonesia, and Malaysia. Tier 3 countries include: Iran, Catalan, Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Croatia, Chile, Nepal, France and the United Kingdom.
The Office of International Affairs is a central international office dedicated to supporting recruitment, enrollment, and retention of international students, and to develop programs, curriculum, education abroad and strategies in collaboration with UCCS colleges and schools to increase multicultural experiences and global competencies of students, faculty, and staff.
