Commencement scheduled for May 23 at Broadmoor World Arena

An estimated 1,000 spring graduates will participate in commencement ceremonies scheduled for 11:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.  May 23 at the Broadmoor World Arena (formerly the Colorado Springs World Arena).

The 11:30 a.m. ceremony will feature bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degree graduates from the College of Letters, Arts and Sciences. The 3:30 p.m. ceremony will feature bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degree recipients from the Beth-El College of Nursing and Health Sciences, the College of Business and Administration, the School of Public Affairs, the College of Education and the College of Engineering and Applied Science.

CU and UCCS dignitaries attending will include members of the CU Board of Regents, CU President Bruce Benson, UCCS Chancellor Pam Shockley-Zalabak, Student Achievement Award recipients Chris Richey and Paige Wilson, and Lyda Hill, a local business woman and philanthropist.

Richey, senior, Biology, will address graduates during the morning ceremony while Wilson, senior, Health Sciences, addresses the afternoon ceremony.

Hill will be presented with an honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters, CU’s highest honor and is awarded in recognition of outstanding contributions to society.

Participating commencement staff should arrive at the World Arena by 9:15 a.m. for the first ceremony and 1:15 p.m. for the second.  Participating faculty should arrive no later than 10:45 a.m. for the first ceremony and 2:45 p.m. for the second ceremony, unless notified otherwise based on specific duties. For those who ordered sustainable regalia or rented regalia, orders may be picked up at the Bookstore the week of May 19.

As in past years, World Arena staff will check bags at the door. In order to ensure quick entry, it’s advised that large or unnecessary bags be left in the car. For those unable to attend commencement, both ceremonies will be live-streamed online and rebroadcast on Comcast Channel 20 and Falcon Broadband Channel 77.
