The 2023 EthicsFirst workshop will take place on Thursday, October 19, offering for the first time both a morning and an afternoon session. This year’s theme, “Crucial Conversations,” explores ways to engage in tough conversations with honesty and respect. Participants will gain the confidence and ability to dialogue when stakes are high, opinions vary and emotions run strong.
Recent studies have shown that the majority of people may fear speaking up, crippling needed constructive dialogue.
Attendees may attend both the morning and afternoon workshops or just attend one. Both are free.
In the morning workshop, which will run from 8 – 11:30 a.m. and include breakfast, will help participants “master their stories,” to include separating facts from fiction, eliminating negative stories and taking responsibility for the emotions they bring to the conversation. The morning workshop includes breakfast.
In the afternoon workshop, which will run from 2 – 5:30 p.m., attendees will cover how to find common ground and go over the steps participants can take to rebuild a sense of safety when others get defensive. The afternoon workshop includes snacks.
Both workshops, which have in person and virtual options, will be facilitated by Master Certified Crucial Conversations trainer Salomeh Diaz.
Diaz brings over twenty-seven years of experience to the leadership development and behavior change space. In her corporate background, she held positions in operations, marketing and consultative sales, and also has extensive experience in business development and key accounts management.
EthicsFirst, which is sponsored by Daniels Fund Ethics Initiative Collegiate Program at UCCS, noted that UCCS has adopted a set of values to which it is committed, including specifically a commitment to the values of integrity, trust, respect and accountability an expectation that each member of the campus community will engage in ethical behavior.
