Three UCCS students swept the 2014 Region V Student Competition for the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics on April 4 in Minneapolis, Minn.
At the event, students present technical papers in public competition.
Stephen Sloan, Colorado Springs graduate student, took first place in the individual undergraduate competition. Although a graduate student now, Sloan presented his undergraduate research on beamed energy, using the microwave lenses found in the UCCS Exploration and Space Technologies.
Corbin Spells, a Monument senior, finished in second place in the individual undergraduate competition. Spell’s project focused on the development of the Dynamic Stereoscopic Long Range System, a tool that will be used to analyze herd, flock, and swarm behavior of animals.
Ryan Bosworth, a Falcon doctoral student, took first place in the individual graduate competition for comparing two numerical methods to determine the effect of regions of non-equilibrium on the solutions.
The three students will go on to represent UCCS at the International Student Competition in January 2015 in Orlando, Fla.
