Before students left for spring break, the Dean of Students Office and the Department of Public Safety provided safety tips focused on personal responsibility as well as pitfalls of alcohol and drug abuse.
Among the demonstrations in Alpine Village Student Housing March 19 was a Simulated Impaired Driving Experience or SIDNE cart. Driving the cart allowed students to feel the effects of impaired driving. Students also took field sobriety tests wearing specialized “beer goggles” to experience the difficulty of completing simple tasks while drunk.
See a video of Police Officer Jeremy Simenson explaining the program while Police Officer Kristen Schaaf uses a laser device to switch the SIDNE cart from normal to impaired driving modes.
