Meet a Mountain Lion: Corine Toth, Police Dispatcher

Corine Toth is a police dispatcher for the Department of Public Safety at UCCS.

“Meet a Mountain Lion” is a series of stories introducing members of the UCCS community to campus. Meet Corine Toth, police communications technician for the UCCS Police Department.

1. Tell us about your background, and what brought you to UCCS.

I have been working in public safety since I was 19 years old. While in college, I worked for Purdue University Police Department as a student patrol, as well as a correctional officer at the local community corrections. I recently completed my master’s degree in forensic psychology.

I moved to Colorado Springs in December 2021 with my family. I have previously enjoyed working for a campus police department and thought UCCS would be a great opportunity to continue that path of working in public safety.

2. What do you do at UCCS?

I am a police communications technician (also known as a dispatcher) for the UCCS Police Department.

3. What do you love about UCCS?

I love the community and how close-knit everyone is. As a new employee and a new resident to Colorado, everyone has been so welcoming, and I am very grateful for that.

4. What are you working on right now?

Right now I am working through my training requirements to become comfortable enough to perform dispatch duties independently.

5. What energizes you at your job?

While my job has its fluctuations between high volume and low volume of calls, during the low volume periods, my co-workers keep me energized. I have found new friendships within UCCS Police Department that allow me to look forward to coming to work and staying energized and focused on the job.

6. What’s an accomplishment you’re proud of?

A major accomplishment I am proud of is completing my master’s degree while raising two young children. It was no easy task, especially when my husband was working long hours. I conquered through and graduated with a 4.0. It is my biggest duty to set a great example for my children that you can accomplish anything you put your mind to!

7. What’s a goal you have for the future?

I would love to get my doctorate degree at some point.

8. What do you do with your free time?

During my free time I love to spend time with my family and explore the outdoors.

9. What’s the best compliment you’ve ever received?

The best compliment I have ever received is how determined I am to succeed, as well as my work ethic. My loved ones around me have always admired me for how dedicated I am to my family and being able to balance life’s biggest obstacles.

Do you know a Mountain Lion that UCCS should meet? We want to hear all about them! Invite them to share their story, and we’ll tell it to the UCCS community.
