Photo feature: Wind damage on campus

High winds wrought havoc on campus during the President’s Day weekend.

Reported gusts produced consistent speeds of 65 to 75 mph, causing damage throughout Colorado Springs.

According to Rob Dougherty, director, Physical Plant, damage to campus included two uprooted trees near Lot 1, fences at the Family Development Center, a large tree in front of Cragmor Hall, a lamp post on El Pomar Plaza, and a shattered bus stop on Mountain Lion Way and Stanton Rd., near the Recreation Center.

“The wind on campus over the weekend was the worst we’ve seen in a while,” Dougherty said.

Dougherty estimated the storm produced about $10,000 in damage and clean up costs. Facilities crews worked during the weekend to prepare campus for Monday classes.
