The Information Technology Department will host a forum from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Oct. 24 in El Pomar Center 239 to answer questions about information security and various university policies regarding responsible computing.

All faculty and staff are invited to attend the forum.
Additionally, the department will host a data destruction event 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 25. Campus community members can bring personal or work computers, floppy disk drives, tape drives, hard drives, laptops and paper documents to the Information Technology Help Desk on the first floor of El Pomar Center. There, IT staff members will physically destroy the items to ensure sensitive data is not accessed by those who are not authorized. Sensitive data can include social security numbers, grade reports, birthdates, class rosters or other personal information.
The department asked that no monitors, keyboards or mice be brought to the event.
The events are in recognition of National Cyber Security Month and are designed both to protect sensitive information and to raise awareness about campus policies and individual data security responsibilities, according to Greg Williams, security principal, Information Technology.
