Homecoming to kickoff with spirit rally

UCCS students, staff and faculty will kickoff Homecoming 2013 at a Sept. 30 spirit rally that features the lighting of giant UCCS letters.

The event will begin at 6:30 p.m. on El Pomar Plaza and will include free food and drinks, a meet-and-greet with UCCS student-athletes, team coaches, and representatives from UCCS clubs and organizations.

“Homecoming also is about building an initiating school spirit,” Stephen Cucchiara, assistant director, Office of Student Activities, said. “What better way to kick off Homecoming than introducing our team captains and really setting the tone for a week of exciting programs and functions for students, faculty, staff, and alums.”

The rally will end with the Pedestrian Spine being lit with CU-colored lights that lead to an illuminated set of giant UCCS letters overlooking El Pomar Plaza. The walkway will remain lit throughout the Homecoming week.

TESSA Clothing Drive
Sept. 30 – Oct. 3 | 10 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. | Café 65

The Respect on Campus committee is hosting a drive for TESSA. Those who bring any of the suggested items will be able to have a picture taken with a cardboard-mounted photograph of Chancellor Pam Shockley-Zalabak. Prizes will be awarded for the best photo. Suggested items include:

• Garbage bags
• Toilet Paper and Paper Towels
• Pillows, washcloths and towels
• Hairbrushes and hair ties
• Night lights
• Calendars/planners
• Tooth brushes
• Razors
• Feminine products
• Cleaning products and laundry soap
• Sanitary gloves
• New undergarments (all sizes) 

Oktoberfest 
Oct. 2 | 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. | Clyde’s

Clyde’s will offer an Oktoberfest experience with specials on beer, brats and a live polka band.

The March
Oct. 4 | 3 p.m. | Housing Turf Quad

Faculty, staff and students will don UCCS gear and walk en masse from Summit Village to Mountain Lion Stadium to watch the UCCS women’s and men’s soccer teams take on Regis University

Alumni Tailgate at Hacienda Colorado
Oct. 4 | 6:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. | Hacienda Colorado

UCCS alumni will gather at Hacienda Colorado in the UVC Shopping Center to tailgate before heading to cheer on the UCCS soccer teams. For $5, alumni will enjoy food and drinks. RSVP here.
