The UCCS College of Engineering will add a new online degree track to its Master of Engineering program for the spring 2014 semester.
The Master of Engineering in Energy Engineering will be an online-only graduate degree focused on the design, installation, operation, improvement, and maintenance of energy systems in the building environment.
The program will require 30 semester hours in specified coursework focusing on systems, controls and quantifying energy use. Students participating in the program will also be required to complete a capstone project to demonstrate mastery of the overall program content.
According to William Daughton, program director, Engineering and Applied Sciences Extended Studies, because the program entirely online, it is ideal for students working full time.
“The program is ideal for working engineers and technical professionals who have undertaken or may undertake assignments relating to managing the energy needs and requirements of their companies,” Daughton said.
With only a handful of similar degrees throughout the nation, and the program will be the only one of its kind in southern Colorado.
Students interested in the program will be required to have a bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field from an accredited university, a minimum 3.0 undergraduate GPA. Prospective students also need two or more years of experience in mechanical, industrial, civil or government engineering and must have completed an engineering economics course.
