Phil Trujillo, head coach, Men’s Golf, was recently named the Eaton Golf Pride South Central Region Coach of the Year in conjunction with the Golf Coaches Association of America. It’s his sixth regional coach of the year award in his 13 seasons.
Trujillo led the Mountain Lions to their fifth national tournament appearance, and the No. 10 finish at nationals matched the best in program history. UCCS was the only team from the South Central Region to advance to the national championships. The Mountain Lions won their 11th RMAC championship on April 23 and the CSU-Pueblo Wolf Pack Invitational April 16.
Trujillo has coached five Mountain Lions to six All-America awards, including Third Team selection Kevin Witte this season. Witte finished No. 14 at the national championships, was the runner-up at the regional championships and won the RMAC championship. The Mountain Lions also finished the 2012-13 season with three all-region student-athletes, two RMAC All-Tournament players, four RMAC Golfers of the Week and two RMAC First Team student-athletes.
