Bash the Bluffs 5K to honor Ed Burke

Bash-the-Bluffs-LogoThe UCCS Campus Recreation Center will host the 12th annual Bash the Bluffs 5K Run/Walk on April 20.

The race will start a 9 a.m. in front of the recreation center. Participants will either walk or run along the marked course through campus. Aid stations will be provided along the route for water and medical attention.

Following the race, an awards ceremony will recognize the top three overall male and female winners, as well as the male and female winners within five separate age groups.

The annual event is in honor of Ed Burke, professor, Biology, who died in Nov. 2002 from a heart attack while on a mountain bike ride. Each year, a biology student majoring in exercise science is awarded a scholarship in his name.

Free parking is available in Lot 8 adjacent to the UCCS Recreation Center with overflow parking available in the Four Diamonds Sports Complex.
