The service to campus section of Jane Muller’s nomination for the 2013 Staff Council Service Excellence Award is filled with single-spaced listings of service activities that range from helping with the Colorado Math Olympiad to emergency preparedness.
But doing more than what’s asked – or what’s expected – is standard procedure for Muller.
This year’s UCCS 2013 Staff Council Service Excellence Award winner balances two half-time positions as a program assistant for the Department of Women’s and Ethnic Studies and general professional for the Center for the Study of Government and the Individual. She’s juggled responsibility for keeping both departments working smoothly for more than nine years.
“The sheer amount of work she juggles on a daily basis is overwhelming and yet she not only completes projects in a timely fashion, she brings a level of competence to her work that is unparalleled,” Abby Ferber, professor, Department of Women’s and Ethnic Studies, and Jim Null, professor, Department of Political Science and director, Center for the Study of Government Director, wrote.
Null and Ferber also acknowledged the challenge of having two supervisors in their nomination while praising Muller as “committed to serving CU and the community” and “exemplifying the qualities that characterize the very spirit of this award.”
The University of Colorado Staff Council annually recognizes and rewards those individuals from each CU campus and system administration who provide outstanding volunteer service, enriching their campus, community, and the university as a whole.
Muller’s service will be acknowledged and she will receive a $1,000 award at the All-Staff Council Conference later this month.
